I spent most of my 20-year career delving into the deeply personal stories of my clients. For many years, those clients were authors. Today, they are the people who come to me for therapy. I transitioned from editing books to psychotherapy later in life, but the theme of stories and storytelling remains. What are the stories we tell ourselves and how do those stories impact ourselves and others? When I wrote “Pickleberry” I was inspired to write something that my daughters would connect with. I wanted them to see themselves in the story and take to heart its message of the importance of relationships over materialism.
Seeing the story brought to life on Zoog is incredibly satisfying. It literally jumps off the page now. I can only hope that other children will see it performed by their loved ones and walk away with the same sense of delight as my own kids.
